STAPLES

A U.S. company, leader in the marketing of office supplies and equipment, hired us to recover a domain name registered by a third party. This domain name integrally reproduced not only the American company’s corporate name, but also its house brand.

Our first step was to conduct an investigation of the company that had registered the domain name, with domicile in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon. The investigation revealed that this company had recently moved to a new address, and that its business activities had decreased dramatically in the last few years. We also ascertained the expiration date of the domain name, and the name of the registrar. We found out that the domain name was about to expire, so we talked with the registrar and asked how much extra time they had. Armed with this information, we constantly monitored the status of that domain name and, once it expired, we were alert for the moment that it would be dropped. When this happened, we registered that domain name under our client’s name.

This stategy enabled our client to recover his domain name, spending less than he would have if he had followed the procedure known as the “Policy for the solution to domain name disputes for .MX" (LDRP).
